Louisa Hinsby Park

Louisa Hinsby Park

The land for the park was originally donated to the Taroona Progress Society (today’s Taroona Community Association) by local resident Louisa Hinsby in the 1930s for the purposes of a children’s playground.

It was later passed into the hands of the Kingborough Council and laid as a vacant undeveloped block for many decades. The property was threatened with sale multiple times until the Taroona Community Association discovered Louisa’s original wishes and worked with Council and the local community to design and develop the park, culminating in its opening in 2023.

Facilities include picnic shelter, gravel paths suitable for trikes, slide, swings and a grassed open play space. The park has been landscaped exclusively with Taroona native species, each with its own interpretive label beautifully described and illustrated by Taroona Primary School students.

The remarkable full story of the park is presented on an interpretation panel at the entrance.
