On August 19th, a Southern Right Whale gave birth in the Derwent Estuary off Taroona. This is the first Right Whale birth to be recorded in the Derwent since 1820.

Local photographers captured images of the mother whale in the Derwent.

When another whale visited on August 30th, it presented a great sight (and sounds) for onlookers at the High school foreshore.
