News, February 2012

The Taroona Scout Group continues to enjoy growth not seen since the 1960s with both youth and leadership membership increasing. The Group welcomes Sarah and Bronwyn; Sarah will be taking on our latest new exciting adventure, the formation of a Joey Scout's mob for the 6 - 8 year olds. They will meet at the Taroona Health Centre on Monday nights whilst older Cub Scouts meet under the new leadership of Bronwyn ably assisted by Brian, Daniel, and Lachlan.

The Scout Troop also has a new leadership team, Janet is now assisted by Emma who has moved from Cubs and Roy has joined to add another dimension to team's the experience and expertise.

In addition to Cubbing, Brian has taken on the role of Leader In Charge permitting Simon to concentrate on the Venturers and the Q-Store.

Our new leaders are warmly welcomed and with existing leaders they form the most amazing team you can imagine to bring to our youth the adventure and enjoyment of outdoor and life skills that Scouting offers.

The motto "Be Prepared for new adventure" has never been more appropriate.  great example is the recent 15th Australian Venture "Wild Dayz" for Venture Scouts held at Quercus Park in Tassy's north. A huge variety of activities and events were enjoyed by nearly 1000 Venturers supported by nearly as many helpers.

Our youth members achieved a lot during the year. Congratulations to Ben Grove and Kate Hutchinson who were joint winners of the June Flood award for excellence in Cubbing. Laura Riesley, Olie Pharnham, Wil Zenke, Ben Grove & Kate Hutchinson all achieved the Grey Wolf badge the highest Cubbing award.

Summer activities have seen the "Active Youth On Land & Sea" equipment funded by the Kingborough Council put to extensive use. The family camp at Lime Bay was huge with a flotilla of kayaks taking advantage of the sheltered waters and Ian once again landing numerous fish. We are preparing for the annual March Scout regatta at Snug to further our past successes.

Thanks to the community support the proceeds of the Giant Garage sale contributed to our newly finished much needed renewed kitchen. It looks great with functionality to support activities thanks to John who installation skills and James' electrical expertise.

We are all looking forward to a year of fun filled and exciting activities. If you would like any information concerning the Taroona Scout Group or are interested in youth membership or a leader role please contact :

Scout Hall

The Scout Hall in Taroona park.

The Taroona Scout Group takes pride in providing a diverse range of activities and experiences for both its youth and adult members.  Our ability to do so is due to ongoing Taroona community support and our team of wonderful leaders.

Family fun camps at Lime Bay, snow camps, annual Scout Regattas, participation in the Wooden Boat Festival and Hobart City Council's Christmas Pageant, bush walks and more supplement weekly meetings for each of our sections of cubs, scouts and venturers.  We are always keen to welcome both new youth members and leaders.  Involvement at all levels in the scouting movement leads to a lifetime of memories.
